The award-winning cartoonist Atena Farghadani was sentenced in June 2015 to 12 years and nine months in prison for "insulting parliament members," "insulting the supreme leader," "spreading propaganda against the system," and "gathering and colluding against national security" in connection with a video she uploaded to YouTube describing her mistreatment in Evin prison, where she was held in 2014 after publishing a cartoon satirizing Iranian leaders.
